Textures

"How can I explain Japan to my loved ones, if they have never been there?" I often thought to myself. After spending so much time in Japan, I often wonder how to share the little things that I love so much. I wanted to find a way to capture the essence of Japan and bring it to life through my photography. Textures, I thought.

This series of photos is my (humble) attempt to do just that. Picture yourself in a traditional Japanese room, maybe in a temple. You can see and almost feel the textures—the tatami mats under your feet, the smooth paper walls, and a selection of clothes laid out for you to choose from. It's raining outside. The room is filled with comforting smells: the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the earthy scent of the wooden tatami, and the freshness of rain coming from the open window.

After a warm bath, you sit on the terrace of the room, looking out at a beautifully maintained Japanese garden while sipping your warm coffee. The only sounds breaking silence are the gentle drops of rain, and if you're lucky, a friendly duck might swim by in the garden pond.

Can you close your eyes and imagine being there?
